DESIGNER STATEMENT: Yum, a book for people who love Asian snacks or simply snack lovers. As the creator of Yum, I always want to bring joyful content to my audience instead of serious and intense topic. If you enjoy having snacks, you never going to go wrong with Yum, and if you don’t, I wish you can take a glance and entertain yourself in certain perspectives.

I noticed that most Americans are not quite familiar with Asian snack since I arrived in the States. I personally see Asian snacks as a better choice than Americans because of my identity and background. They’re more flavorful than American ones and it’s never hurt to try a bite. So I decided to introduce them through Yum. The ultimate goal is to influence more people to Join the family of Asian snacks.

Photographing food and meals is one of my favorite processes. I always like to explore different angles and compositions to make objects look exquisite in terms of colors and details. Yum provides me the chance to shoot snacks which I haven’t done before. The approach was mainly focused on packages and snacks inside. In order to make them consistent, adjusting light and exposure was the challenging part since most packaging has a shining coated surface. With some minor adjustments in post-production, the photographs look polished eventually. For the writing part, I didn’t explain too much except introduction, personal opinion, reviews and retail location. My intention was to draw audience’s attention to the images in order to stimulate their stomach by several visual elements.
